Biggest Girl Birthday

Thursday, August 7, 2014
We had our biggest girls birthday a few weeks ago. We decided on a flamingo theme. Happy party, happy hearts.

It was a chocolate cake that was amozing, yes, amozing. I have made it since. It was a 4 layer chocolate cake with our own pink icing.  We found the flamingo little sticks somewhere but my daughter helped decorate the cake. I like how a flock of flamingos set themselves up right there on our cake.

I used green fabric on super sale, thank you Chrysalis, for our table cloths. My daughters and I cut out scrap fabrics of pinks and corals and created the garland overhead. I love making those, not only for my sake but little hands and hearts can help too.

My aunt was here and her birthday is a couple days from my daughters so we celebrated them together. This was a peach crystal. We named it that. Its a twist on my strawberry crumble.  Its an embarrassment as to how many times I have made this dessert. Ahh, delightful. The candles also melted into the peach crystal because it was so hot. We were eager!

The flowers were just.... there are no words. I am so thankful for this house and this yard the Lord has given us to cultivate. My husband has a knack for the yard and gardening. A hobby that came later in life for him but I am grateful to reap the rewards. These flowers were from some of our harvest.

Happy birthday biggest girl!

Baby Girl Blanket

Tuesday, August 5, 2014

I am on a baby blanket roll these days. Lots of babies!

Haha. My toes made it in the pic too.

I loved the way this one turned out and the colors were so happy. This little girl has been born and I know she looks just darling wrapped up all snug in this blanket.

baby blanket for boy or girl

I sewed this baby for a baby due in August. Mom and Dad are not finding out what they are having ( how exciting!) and it makes it a challenge for moi. I like this challenge though.

I thought that the bikes were so cute and adds a touch of whimsy.

Happy baby!

These are a couple of necklaces that are now for sale in Sweet Patina. I am really proud and happy of the way the last bunch of necklaces came out. Perhaps when you take a break and come back to your craft, you have new inspiration!

You can view a few more by checking out Sweet Patina's facebook page.
Enjoy and happy weekend!

Baby Girl Birthday: stars and hearts

Friday, July 11, 2014
We had the season of baby girl birthdays here in June and July. It was fun for them and for me!

For little girl turning 2, she loves stars and hearts. She wants you to draw them, she wants to color them, and she wants to say them.

All the flowers came from our yard. I was so impressed! My husband has worked very hard in the yard the last few years and it shows.

I bought small wooden hearts and stars at the craft store and my girls and I used watercolors to paint them. After they dried, we glued sequins on. I used these on the table and the cakes. Plus, it was a fun activity a 2 and 5 year old could do together.

I finally broke down and bought lots of clear glass jelly jars. It was time. I used them here for flowers but have already used them for straws, forks and more flowers. Good decision.

We had hotdogs for lunch and I ( or rather I put my mom and dad to work on it) cut out stars from the watermelon. They were cute and festive.

Our cake was coconut cake and it was something special. Divine.

I had a new cake plate to bust out. Love the color. I found stars and hearts glow sticks and put them in a jar near the cake. The party hats were decorated with stars and hearts.

My older daughter made the fabric weaving a few days before and wanted to use it for sisters cake. Sweet. I also made chocolate cake in tin cans. I had seen it on pinterest and wanted to try it. It was fun to experiment and my cake was good. They were a tad tall and wanted to tip over. Either way, my daughters got a kick out of so many candles to blow out.

Happy 2 year old birthday!

Party Shelf

Wednesday, July 9, 2014
A couple of weeks ago, I was ready to clean everything out.
And then, I did one room, and haven't done another since.

I sold a few things on ebay, gave others away and still I have too much stuff. Perhaps its the artist in me?
Either way, I did clean out one of my kitchen shelves. I now call it my party shelf.

I love that I have a party shelf now.  I keep the upcoming party supplies in there or leftover ones. Its just a happy spot. Even my husband refers to the party shelf. Thats a real win.

One day, instead of having a wrapping paper room or whatever specialty room that seems ostentatious, I would like to have a party supply room. It would hold all things like this but also the handmade, homemade decor I have made over the years. And when I get too many of them, I would send them out to orphanages or homeless shelters for their own happy days.

Before and After: Dining Room Chairs

Wednesday, June 25, 2014
This is the old dining room chair, complete with pumpkin pie or was it sweet potato pie stain from Thanksgiving. Either way, it was time for a change.

And here is the after. I love this fabric. Thank you to my friends at Chrysalis. It looks great in my dining room and looks fantastic with my curtains.  I love mixing and matching patterns. The watery blues and greens hide dirt and like I said, look good in my house. Now, to actually finish all the other chairs:)

Discover a new artist: Janet Hill Studio

Tuesday, June 10, 2014
I discovered this artists work a year or so ago. Janet Hill. The colors are grand, and I just find it pleasant to stroll through her works on her etsy site. They are happy and bright and tell great stories.

 Still Life

Goldfinch

I am looking around my house for where I can put one of these. I especially appreciate this last one, Goldfinch. It practically never happens, but I remember the days when I could wake up and go back to reading the book I put down the night before. What a nice way to wake up, if its a good book:)

Happy Tuesday- Stay cool out there!

This gal is making a stop in Bedfellows. Isn't she pretty?

Necklace: bumble bee and flower

Thursday, March 27, 2014
And another new one at Sweet Patina. I was a tad sad to let this one go... It would certainly be great with my outfit today! It reminds me of a bumble in search of the perfect flower.

New Beauts: pollen on the pond

Tuesday, March 25, 2014
I just put in some new long and short to Sweet Patina last Friday. Here is one for purchase. Love the colors! It reminds me of the pollen/film on my pond outside. It is some new breed of something and even though I feel bad for the ducks swimming through it, it really is quite a nice color.

10th birthday party

Wednesday, March 19, 2014

Last week, we had a 10th birthday party at mi casa. I used the colors out of the napkins for the decor and tried to keep it simple. I had to clean AND decorate.

This garland took longer than I had hoped so I made him a tad short. I used felt and cut out of the tens and squares and sewed them all together. Our theme was 10.

I made little signs for each type of food we had. We had a mexican supper so there were lots of toppings. I like that the numbered signs weren't perfect. I like the homemade look for some things.

And here is our food. The vase of flowers was a glass bottle I painted for a quick pop of color. Easy and I liked.

For the dining room, I didn't do much but used the same felt from the above garland and made tens to hang from the ceiling. I also used fabric I already had in my stash to cover the table and bought tulips for the center. Tulips are a nice change ( they don't really grow around here in the muggy heat) and they are happy.

Happy 10th birthday!

an original necklace

Hot off the presses! Another new one that will be taken to Bedfellows this week. Only one day left, so I guess that means tomorrow!

Remember these:new necklaces

Monday, March 10, 2014
Remember the necklaces I used to make? :)
Yes, I do still make them and sell them but just have had other interests lately plus I have little hands and mouths that have other intentions for beads.
Yikes.

However, I am putting in a few new ones at Bedfellows.

This necklace, along with a few others, are for sale at Bedfellows. Come and see!

quilting in progress

Slowly coming together... still not sure what I am making...

knit 1, purl 2

Thursday, March 6, 2014

This was the first thing I ever knit. My grandmother, not the governors daughter but the school teacher, taught me when I visiting her a few years ago. I am so glad I asked her to show me. She passed a way a couple of years ago and in going through her belongings, I realized how many traits I got from her.

She loved to create things with her hands and provide beauty in the everyday. She kept her own cut and paste recipe book and kept every art supply she used.

I sat on the navy love seat and she rocked, both quiet, until I missed a stitch. Knit 1, Purl 2. I knit in the car passing over the Chesapeake, I knit on the airplane quickly and with sweaty palms to distract me from the nerves, and then I knit when I got back to my own home. I cherish that time we had together.

And I look back, and what is this? It started as a scarf but as one can see,I was new to the idea of knitting. A scarf for a giant. But, he would be a warm giant:)

Before and After: chair

Tuesday, March 4, 2014

So excited! My chair has returned.

This was the before:

And here is the after! The fabric is a papaya and cream small hounds tooth. She is sitting in a holding area until I move things around but I had forgotten how comfy she is. I might need to move her in front of the tv for Nashville on Wednesday. Yeah, I like that show.

Ok, happy Shrove Tuesday.
