January: the month of the pillow

Thursday, January 30, 2014
January has been the month of the pillow.  Perhaps Pillowuary? Yeah, doesn't sound that great.  But still, love the pillow.
I made the euro sized pillow last week and this weekend I started the bird pillow. This bird fabric was one of the very first fabrics I bought 7 or 8 years ago that began my wonderfully fabulous fabric stash. And now I have finally used some of it! I need to buy more...

The back is a red Moroccan print I already had made into a pillow and I just cut it up and reworked it. The blue edge is an aqua velvet that I adore. This fabric never gets old.

And here are all the yummy fabrics together.

Lucky for you guys, I have a few more pillow ideas up my sleeve...

More pillows for you : A Pseudo Living Room Tour

Wednesday, January 22, 2014
I just finished this set of pillows for my sofa. As you might have seen from other posts, I love pillows! I am trying to simplify, though. And perhaps add some symmetry. I think the more patterns one has in their living room, the more need for symmetry.
I think.
So, for today, I only have 2 matching pillows on my couch. I give it a week.

I love this watercolory diamond fabric. I finished the edge in a pale green that actually matches my artichoke hearts ( dining room paint color ) and ties into the green in the pillow fabric.

And after the top picture, I am already thinking of what pictures and art to move where. Its always on going:)

Happy pillows

Thursday, January 16, 2014
I made these window seat pillows for my sister for Christmas. It may seem like I have done a lot of sewing lately, but I haven't. I am enjoying the slow January. Ok, not that slow because I still have little people around here but I get the purpose in January now. Always seemed boring. Even the magazines are thinner and have less content. But hooray for January.

Back to this post...

I paired these 3 fabrics together and I love how happy they are. They sit in her window seat. Certainly makes the gray days of January less gray.

Happy pillows for you today, too. Try to enjoy the slow of January!

Girly Girl Pillows and General Hospital

Tuesday, October 22, 2013
This pillow is so sweet and makes you think of days running back and forth between your best friends house and your house. We had secret meetings under the sweet viburnum by the bird bath, we made "houses" by raking leaves into floor plans ( why isn't one of us an architect?), and had elaborate soap opera wars going on between her Barbies and mine. I realize now I watched a lot of General Hospital as a child. Been through a lot with the Quartermaines. Sad I know their names.

Back to the pillow...

Each girl is hand painted and outfitted with a darling skirt that is sewn on.

The pillow is 12"x16" and is quite soft. She is $45. Contact me at thegovernorsdaughter@gmail.com if interested. I have several others I will be showcasing on my facebook page. To see them, go here.

Tootles!

aqua velvet is something special: a mothers day and fathers day present

Tuesday, June 18, 2013

Hooray! I finally finished a project! I created new euro shams and shams for my in laws bed for mothers day and fathers day. I made them to match a quilt I made for her a few years back. And actually, it all came from a necklace I made before that! So necklace to quilt to shams all with the same colors.

This red quatrefoil fabric seems to go with just about anything and its just happy. I have worked on many projects and this fabric always comes to mind and works. I have it in my house as well.

I lined the pillows in a dark blue linen that tied in with the quilt and would help dress it up a bit and set off the red fabric.

And that aqua velvet is something special. It is so luxurious! It looked great in my house as well...thinking of where I could put it...

My mother-in-law sent me a picture of their bedroom with the new linens. I was really pleased with the way it all came out and I am so thrilled that they like it too.
